We'd like to hear your experience of Leasehold charges.

In previous times developers used to pay councils to take on maintenance of communal elements in an estate, such as roads, open spaces and drainage. But most now pass the costs on to householders in the estate.

Residents tell us that these management charges have escalated – which is why we call this “Fleecehold”.

Developers have also sold houses “Leasehold” in some areas – so householders never own them fully. 99 years is commonly used.
The price you paid won't have been less – but if you want to buy out the lease it can cost many £ thousands!

We believe these charges are fleecing householders – Liberal Democrats are campaigning for an end to “Leasehold and Fleecehold”.
