Let Healthcare Workers Park: Help Me Deliver a Permanent Solution for Community Healthcare in Worcestershire
For over two years, I’ve been working to fix a deeply frustrating issue raised by a local nursing manager: there’s still no proper parking permit scheme for healthcare staff delivering urgent and essential care in people’s homes.
District and community nurses visit patients who are housebound, seriously ill, or receiving palliative and end-of-life care. But when they park near their patients in residential zones, they risk being fined — or they’re forced to park far away and carry medical equipment down unfamiliar streets.
Under the current system, even nurses delivering end-of-life care could return to find a ticket on their car — and many have told me how stressful and unfair the current rules feel. Others describe leaving visits early or using distant car parks because they have no other choice.
This isn’t just a parking problem — it’s a care problem.
What the Motion Proposes:
• A countywide Healthcare Parking Permit scheme
• Fair access for verified healthcare professionals during home visits
• That the cost of the permit be covered by healthcare providers — not individual staff or local councils
This approach is already working in other areas — including Oxfordshire, Cornwall, and Bradford. It’s time Worcestershire caught up.
Let’s help care arrive quicker.
Let’s bring healthcare home.
Let’s let nurses park!
Thank you!
